About Me

Welcome to my site, on trust, leadership, and communication, with your dog!

If you've found yourself looking for my help, then you are on the right path to building a happy and successful relationship with your faithful friend!

I will help you to understand what steps both you and your dog need to take in order to live in harmony, together.

My approach is calm, gentle, and forgiving.  My ultimate aim is to enable your dog to put their total trust in you.

For us to achieve this, I will show you how to present leadership to your dog in a way that is both kind and consistent. We will break through the language barrier that exists between humans and canines.

You will build confidence and meet each other’s others expectations for a successful lifelong bond together.

Body Language is a crucial part of the relationship with your dog. It will enable you to convey to your dog that they do not have to worry about anything in the big wide world as you have taken the initiative to be their responsible owner and will look after their needs and protect them.

Communication is the key.

Dogs are often misunderstood. Naturally, they prefer to avoid confrontation. Often, their misbehaviour is a result of miscommunication, and rarely as a result of malicious intent.

Dogs have changed little since their introduction to man. Human beings however have changed a lot!

We need to acknowledge how our often manic pace of life could have a negative effect on our dog’s quality of life.  In doing so, we highlight the importance of nurturing the relationship between our devoted companions and ourselves.

It's crucial to get this relationship right. And if we do, there is a real chance we can benefit from what they have to offer.

Our dogs can help us connect with the natural world and so improve and sustain our own physical and mental well being.

For each of us, the relationship with our dog is a two-way journey, which requires patience and understanding. Success in this relationship is win win for dog and owner.

Whatever difficulties you may be having with your dog, we can work on them together and find a solution.

Your dog’s difficulties may include any of the following:

  • Separation anxiety.

  • Consistent barking.

  • Resource guarding. Of objects, people, food etc.

  • Chewing -furniture/ belongings etc.

  • Recall and obedience problems.

  • Puppy biting – and generally understanding the complex stages of puppyhood.

  • Hostility towards other family members, friends, postman etc.

  • Aggression towards other dogs/ moving objects/cars/bikes etc.

  • Mastering loose leash walking.

  • Building confidence in a nervous dog.

I am fully insured, DBS checked and have internationally recognised diploma accreditation in canine behaviour and training.

Use the form below to book your free phone consultation.

All personal data will be kept fully confidential in accordance to GDPR.

I am happy to do consultations  and  virtual sessions on line, with zoom or any other media network available to you. The benefit of this option is that the whole family can attend and the dog and everyone concerned can remain relaxed in their own environment while an action plan is set out. I'm also able to observe any problematic behaviour within the home setting.

I'm also available on the phone, any weekday or weekend from 10am till 5pm for advice or enquires.

Each individual case is unique and is something that needs detailed discussion and consideration of the best way forward for you and your dog.

Training options are as follows:

•One to one sessions available.

•If needed I will advise on a training plan and the option to buy  group sessions at a reduced rate.

•Group classes are available if you have friends with their dogs with whom you would like to train, to make it fun and beneficial for all concerned.

Providing of course we make special considerations for the suitability of  dogs taking part.   An  assessment would be carried out prior to this activity.

Not all dogs work well in a group setting and so, for your dog to learn, the environment has to be 100% suitable!

Terms and condition:

•Payment to be made prior to the sessions being carried out.

•Please allow 48hrs notice for cancellations in order that the place may be offered to someone else.

•For safety reasons if the dog is deemed unfriendly or unsafe with strangers it is the owners responsibility to keep the dog behind a barrier or on a leash within the home setting until an assessment is made.

Thank you.

Jazz

I met Rachel while out on a morning walk, I have been training Jazz, my now 9 month old German Shepherd bitch since we had her at 8 weeks.

Jazz being born just before lockdown meant that as a growing pup there was sadly a lack of people and other dogs to socialise with.

I had managed well with the internet advice etc but with a near 30kg dog now I had got to the point where I needed some expert guidance on leash walking, lunging and barking at strangers, I couldn't be pulled over again! Control was needed and Rachel got us on to a path of confidence building for both Jazz and myself, I was introduced by Rachel to a Gentle Leader, a training tool, some instruction and patience and two weeks on now Jazz and I are a happy pair enjoying our walks together.

There is plenty more for us to learn and we will be calling on Rachel again in the near future for some other areas to work on, I would recommend Rachel to work with you and your dog, if you have any doubt you need some help then you probably do, it's ok to ask for help, you wont regret it

Arko

My name is Pat Oborn . I am a qualified/certified dog trainer of 44 years experience working in and around Swindon ,running my own Dog Training Clubs and recognised by veterinarians.
I had the pleasure of meeting Rachel through a friend and recently having broken my rib decided to call on her for some help with my over exuberant, friendly bouncy 7month old German Shepherd, Arko.  He is an absolutely beautiful boy that has come on leap and bounds with his training but because of my rib I couldn't take any chances of him jarring me with his sudden lunging in order to greet his friends, he just loved to say 'Hello' to everybody and I was unable to correct him due to my injury ! I reached out to Rachel to help with this particular issue as  with a growing boy we needed to nip it in the bud before he got any bigger and stronger.
Rachel introduced him to a gentle leader, which he took to straight away. I observed from a distance her gentle handling of my boy and it was  Calm and positive. She has a natural understanding of the importance of a balanced energy that Is required in order to work with Dogs. I trust and would highly recommend Rachel as a trainer with any type of behavioral work for your dog.
And most importantly since the session with Rachel  Arko no longer Lunges and this, in turn is allowing my ribs to heal!

Lester & Guss

Myself and my fiancé Stan travelled to Wolverhampton on 2nd February to pick up our new boy, Lester a 10-week-old golden retriever Labrador.

He didn't travel so well but, on our return, he settled in well with our other boy Guss, a jug who was nearly 3.

Guss has been crated overnight since we got him and we hoped Lester would settle down with the same regime. Success!!!!!! They now snuggle down together in one crate every night.

Lester has a lovely nature, loved his teddies and toys but by 7 months old nothing lasted more than 5 minutes no matter how much they had cost.

We did find some indestructible bones but by July he had moved on to the coffee table and a couple of months later he thought he might give the sofa a try!?

Soul destroying!

Our other issue was the bigger he grew, the harder it was to walk him as he started pulling on the lead. Walks were becoming a chore rather than a pleasure. We had tried lots of different leads but could not find a solution.

He's such a joy to have in our home and we love him and Guss so much.  Changes had to be made.

That’s when I called upon my dear friend Rachel. She has always been at one with the animal kingdom so immediately I thought here is someone who could help.

Thankfully, she agreed. The first session we discussed Lester in depth and she gave us some training tips and spent a couple of hours with him and ourselves.

Just that first week the turnaround was incredible. Rachel gave us the tools and confidence to become better doggy parents, not only to Lester but Guss too.

The following week we went walking with new equipment and again her invaluable advice allowed us to get Lester walking without pulling.  She taught us how to control Lester and gave us methods that would make walking a more enjoyable experience for all of us!

The week up to Christmas I worked long hours so Stan did all the dog walking alone but was reporting great progress. I finally got a day off on the 27th December and I couldn't wait to go out for a walk with them!!

We went for a walk around the town and Lester was majestic!! Head held high, no pulling and just so well behaved. It was like walking a different dog!!!!! I was choked up, it meant that much.

Too date there has been no further chewing of the furniture and he is easier to calm down if he gets over excited, and is generally more controllable and calm.

This story is not over!

His walking is superb, now we want to master recall as he loves to be off the lead, get into the river and say hi to every dog he sees!!!!!  ( he has not realised that not all dogs are friendly).

To be continued!!

Myia & Millie

Myia is my beautiful 42kg Rottweiler, wonderfully friendly with other dogs and people but had no manners on the leash and no amount of  physical strength on my part  was ever  going to be enough  when dealing with my headstrong puller . I called on Rachel and she gave me  the tools and  knowledge to apply a successful technique to draw upon  my calm assertive energy which has transformed my gentle giant. Also Millie my 10 month old furry baby girl who is very nervous around other dogs and new people having taken advice from Rachel she is improving every day. Thank you so much Rachel for all you help.

Endorsements, Tips and My Sketches

Dog Walking.

This is a shout out for the good souls at work within the community improving the Health of our canine Buddies!

THE WALK - The most important activity you can do with your dog!

Exercise enables them to learn about their environment using their senses , exercising not only their bodies but stimulating their brain function as well leading to a content , well adjusted dog . It's a time for interaction and connecting to their primal instincts

A dog that does not have its basic needs met with the  'walk'  is destructive,  boisterous and  can't easily settle it's brain, leading to an unhappy and confused member of 'your pack' this will in turn take its toll on the whole family.

Thank you dog-walkers everywhere in meeting that most essential of needs and it's good for us humans too!
